Support in Schools/College/University

Lots of students get support from their education setting when they’re going through a tough time. You can speak to anyone working in your setting about anything that’s bothering you, whether its education related or something different. In Calderdale, there are a range of services established in settings which can support you including peer support, family support, and counselling.

Time Out delivered by Healthy Minds.

Time Out is a FREE service that will help you ‘find your thing’, through activities such as arts, crafts, sports, singing and drama. Time Out can help make you feel good, meet new friends and support you to relax, socialise and do something for yourself.

ChatHealth, Healthy Futures Calderdale

ChatHealth is a FREE NHS-approved secure and confidential text messaging support service.

Age range: 11-19 years

Opening hours: 9am- 5pm, Monday to Friday. Messages outside this time will receive an automated response letting you know when you will receive a reply, and who to contact to get immediate help.

The BREW Project delivered by Invictus Wellbeing

The BREW Project offers you FREE 1-1 support around personal, social, emotional or educational concerns. Their experienced wellbeing advisors are there to speak with, support and help find solutions to problems, concerns and issues you may be experiencing through coronavirus, lockdown and the return to school.

Opening times: Mon-Fri 9am-5pm (Referrals can be made) Mon-Fri 2pm-7pm (support is offered to the child or young person)

Youth Works

Youth Works is a FREE safe space for you to go, ‘chill out’, have a chat, listen to music and access the internet. The drop-in is open weekdays at the Orangebox in Halifax.

Night OWLS

Night OWLS offers FREE emotional listening support and mental health crisis support for ALL children, young people, and their parents/carers across West Yorkshire.

Childline

Childline offers FREE confidential support over the telephone or online with a 1-1 councillor. No problem is too big or small.

ThinkNinja (Healios)

This is an app specifically designed to educate 10-18 year olds about mental health, emotional wellbeing and to provide skills young people can use to build resilience and stay well. ThinkNinja addresses a range of issues including stress, anxiety, low mood, or having unhelpful thoughts. ThinkNinja is free to download for all children and young people with the correct access code, and can be downloaded via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Children and Young People’s Mental Health Survey Report February 2021

The young people’s Tough Times Reference Group created a survey to gather the views and opinions of their peers, aged 9-25, about mental health and emotional wellbeing. The survey included general questions on emotions, as well as more specific questions focusing on local services.
