Calderdale has a number of services that support children and young people who have special educational needs or disabilities.
Calderdale Local Offer – On the Calderdale Local Offer website you will find all of the information you need on the services and support available to children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities from birth to 25.
Unique Ways – Unique Ways is a parent-carer led organisation offering support, guidance and a range of services to families with disabled children aged 0-25. Unique Ways offer training courses for parent carers to help them build their skills and resilience, learn tools and tactics for dealing with schools, health services and Local Authorities, and develop a person-centred method of dealing with their child’s additional needs. Autism Pre-Assessment Information / Resources for School Aged Children – This resource contains a range of information which covers some local resources that are available and which may be able to help whilst your child is waiting for an assessment.
Calderdale Branch of the National Autistic Society (CNAS) – CNAS supports individuals who are on the autistic spectrum, individuals who are on the waiting list to receive a diagnosis and families and carers who support a person on the autistic spectrum.
SENDIASS: Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Support Service – SENDIASS provides legally based, impartial, confidential and accessible information, advice and support for parents of children and young people aged 0-25 with special educational needs or disabilities about education, health and social care. SENDIASS only accepts referrals direct from parents, carers and young people.
A Children and Young People’s Guide to the Autism Assessment Process – The What is Autism Leaflet has been created by young people who have personal experience of autism, either from having or living with a family member with autism. It was created to describe the autism assessment process and what can be expected on the journey.
